Pin Down Three Crowns

The Prior Lake wrestling team pinned down three crowns at the Tri-City United Invitational in Montgomery Jan. 6.

The No. 7-ranked Lakers ended up fourth in the team standings with 170.5 points. New Prague, ranked No. 12, won the crown (220.5), followed by Totino Grace (186.5) and Mankato East (183.5).

Tri-City United was fifth (160), followed by LeSueur-Henderson (47) and Triton (43).

Senior Curtis LeMair won the 145-pound crown for Prior Lake, while sophomore Vincent Moser claimed the title at 152 and junior Hunter Koenig won at 220.

The Lakers were still not at full strength, wrestling with out two of its six ranked wrestlers — senior Kenny O'Neil (No. 2, 170) and junior Calvin Sund (No. 3, 182). LeMair is ranked No. 2 at 145, while Koenig is No. 7 at 220. Sophomore Cory St. Martin is ranked No. 8 at 106, while senior Theo Smith is No. 4 at 132.

Prior Lake is back on duals mat Jan. 11 at Farmington in South Suburban Conference action. The Lakers (8-8 overall, 4-0 in the SSC) are home Jan. 12 versus New Prague in a battle of Section 2AAA foes. Both start at 7 p.m.

Prior Lake is at No. 6 Shakopee in SSC action Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. The Sabers are also a section foe.

At the invite, LeMair went 2-0 to win his title, including a win by fall in the semifinals. Mosher also went 2-0 with a pair of wins by decision (5-3 and 6-3). Koenig wrestled four times, winning twice by fall and once by technical fall.

Smith finished second at 132 pounds, as did sophomore Chase Bloomquist at 113.

Other finishes: St. Martin at 106 (third), eighth-grader Cole Edwards at 126 (third), senior Zachary Wick at 195 (third), ninth-grader Colton Sund at 138 (fifth), sophomore Logan Hennen at 160 (fifth) and senior Cole Zak at heavyweight (fifth).
