The Prior Lake boys hockey team had its momentum halted on the South Suburban Conference road.

Coming off a 3-2 home win over No. 10-ranked Eden Prairie Jan. 4, the Lakers fell to 2-5 in the SSC with a 4-2 setback at Burnsville Jan. 6.

The Blaze earned the season sweep over Prior Lake, winning by that same margin back on Dec. 23. Two of Burnsville's four wins are against the Lakers.

Prior Lake (5-8 overall) went into the Burnsville game winning of five of its last seven games after opening the season with five straight losses.

Meanwhile, the Lakers' victory over Eden Prairie improved their record against Section 2AA opponents to 3-1, which also includes wins over Chaska (2-1) and Chanhassen (5-0) and a loss to No. 1 Minnetonka (4-1).

Senior Bennet Holst had the game-winning goal against Eden Prairie, scoring at the 8:25 mark of the second period. There was no scoring in the final frame. Sophomore goalie Sam Shopbell made nine of his 20 saves in the third period.

Juniors Kobe Kimmes and Jackson Jutting also had goals for the Lakers, while junior Ty Trachsel had two assists and Kimmes, Holst and seniors Moses Kaebel each had one.

In the loss to Burnsville, Prior Lake led 1-0 in the second period, but the Blaze scored three unanswered goals, including taking a 3-1 lead 1:08 into the second period.

Jutting scored on the power play with 6:29 left to play in the game, but the Lakers couldn't get the equalizer. Underhill scored unassisted for the Lakers' first goal. Trachsel and Holst had assists on Jutting's goal.

Shopbell finished with 21 saves in goal.

The Lakers are back on the ice Jan. 9 at home versus Farmington and is at Eastview Jan. 16. Both SSC games start at 7 p.m.
