The Prior Lake girls hockey team has advanced to the Section 2AA semifinals for the fourth time as Class 2A program.

Senior Katie Huntington scored a pair of goals in the second period to lead the fifth-seeded Lakers to a 2-1 win over fourth-seeded Holy Family/Waconia in quarterfinal action Feb. 9 at the Victoria Ice Center.

The Lakers (12-13-1) will take on top-seeded Eden Prairie (16-9-1) in the semifinals Feb. 13 at Braemar Ice Area in Edina at 6 p.m. The other semifinal pits second-seeded Minnetonka (13-9-3) against third-seeded Shakopee (13-10-3) at 8 p.m.

The winners meet for the title Feb. 16 at the same venue at 7 p.m.

Eden Prairie beat the Lakers 8-1 during the regular season back on Dec. 2.

The Lakers' win over Holy Family/Waconia is their first in quarterfinal playoff win since 2014 when the team beat Jefferson/Kennedy 4-1. Prior Lake is 4-14 overall in the playoffs since becoming a Class 2A program at the start of the 2003-04 season.

In the playoff victory, all three goals were scored in second period. Holy Family/Waconia struck first, tallying on the power play 3:11 into the frame.

But Lakers answered. Huntington tied the game at the 8:52 mark and gave the Lakers the lead 1:28 later with team-best 35th goal of the season.

Senior Hannah Shultz finished with 19 saves in goal for the Lakers. Senior Taylor Murray and sophomore Paige Pavlish each had assists.
