6th Grade Band Registration Timeline

___Step 1: Register for Band Class

Near the Beginning of February: 5th graders register for classes (BAND!) for next year with the middle school guidance counselors.  At this time, students should select BAND as their music class in order to join band as 6th graders.  If you change your mind and want to join band after registration, please contact the Guidance Office A.S.A.P at TOMS or HOMS to change your schedule to Band.

___Step 2: Come Learn More About Band

Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. (Virtual-Google Meet): We will hold an informational meeting and question and answer session to help prepare families for their first year in band.

___Step 3: Meet With Band Teacher

Spring:  5th graders who register for band will meet with a band teacher for a brief interview (10-15 minutes) during school to select their top three instrument choices. This is based on student characteristics and interest.

___Step 4: Receive Invitation

May: After the interviews and informational meeting, the band teachers will select an instrument for students to play, based from their top three choices and their physical characteristics indicated in the interview and the instrumentation needs of each school.  Students will receive a formal invitation in the mail to play a selected instrument.

___Step 5: Register For Your Instrument and Sign-Up for Summer Band

Tuesday, May 11th, 2021, 5-7:00pm: Families will meet with vendors to purchase/rent their instrument and will meet with directors to sign up for summer band lessons. Families will also have the option to complete registration online through Community Education.  If your family decides to enroll online and not attend this evening, an instrument will need to be secured before summer band lessons begin.  Please communicate early if you plan six private lessons outside the district (candree@priorlake-savage.k12.mn.us).

___Step 6: Begin Learning Your Instrument!!  Monday, July 26th – Friday, August 6th:  Summer band lessons begin.  Students will receive their instrument from the music stores on the first day of summer band lessons through Community Education.  Summer lessons are two days per week (Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs) for one-half hour each meeting (Note: Groups will meet for a full hour the first week).
