___Step 1: Register for Band Class
Near the Beginning of February: Fifth graders register for classes (BAND!) for next year with the middle school guidance counselors. At this time, students should select BAND as their music class in order to join band as 6th graders. If you change your mind and want to join Band after registration, please contact the Guidance Office A.S.A.P. at TOMS or HOMS to change your schedule to Band.

____Step 5: Meet with Band Director
Spring: 5th graders who register for band will meet with a Band Director for a brief interview (10-
15 minutes) during school to test out their top three instrument choices. This is based on student
characteristics, interest, and needs of the program.
_____Step 6: Receive Invitation
Late April: After the interviews and informational meeting, the Band Directors will select an instrument
for students to play, based on their top three choices, physical characteristics indicated in the
interview, and the instrumentation needs of each school. Students will receive a formal invitation in
the mail to play a selected instrument.
___Step 7: Obtain Your Instrument and Sign-Up for Summer Band
Tuesday, May 9th 5-6:30pm: Families will meet with vendors to purchase/rent their instrument and
will meet with directors to sign up for summer band lessons. Families will also have the option to
complete registration online through Community Education. If your family decides to enroll online and
not attend this evening an instrument will need to be secured before summer band lessons begin. Please
communicate early if you plan private lessons outside the district. candree@priorlake-savage.k12.mn.us
