The Prior Lake boys hockey team couldn't find the back of the net in Section 2AA quarterfinals.

For the second straight year, Holy Family ended the Lakers' season with a 1-0 road win Feb. 21. The fifth-seeded Fire tallied the game's lone goal with 5:18 left to play in the third period.

But that was not the only drama in the final minutes. Prior Lake was awarded a penalty shot with 7.4 seconds left to play after a Fire defender laid on the puck in the crease. But Holy Family goalie Bailey Huber denied senior Jackson Jutting on the game-tying attempt.

Prior Lake also had a goal waived off earlier in the third period.

The Lakers finished the season with a 13-11-1 overall record (11-6-1 in the South Suburban Conference). The Lakers had its string of eight straight section quarterfinal victories snapped.

Last year, the Fire beat Prior Lake 5-2 in the semifinals.

Huber ended up with 31 saves for Holy Family, including 13 in the first period. Senior Cade Kujawski stopped 18 shots for the Lakers.

Prior Lake went into the playoffs winning its last five South Suburban Conference games, scoring 25 goals in the process.

The shutout loss to Holy Family was only the second time the Lakers were blanked this season. An 8-0 loss to Chaska back on Dec. 27 was the other time Prior Lake was held without a goal.

The Lakers will have replace nine seniors on the varsity roster, including Charlie Kashmark, Ty Trachsel, Kobe Kimmes, Nathan Green, Brian Kallberg, Wade Winter and Ben Swanson.

Jutting, a four-year letterwinner, leaves the Lakers' program as its all-time points and assist leader. He led the squad in both of those categories this year with 42 and 28, respectively. His 14 goals were second on the team behind Kashmark, who finished the season with 18 goals and 13 assists.

Trachsel (3 goals, 12 assists), junior Nick Speltz (7 goals, 8 assists) and Kallberg (7 goals, 8 assists) each had 15 points, while Kimmes finished with five goals and eight assists and Green had five goals and seven assists.

Kujawski made 12 starts in goal, finishing with a 2.08 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage, along with one shutout. Junior Sam Shopbell made 14 appearances in goal, compiling a 2.64 goals-against average, an .884 save percentage and three shutouts.
