One Spot Shy of Earning the Automatic State Bid

The Prior Lake girls track team fell short of the automatic bid in the Section 3AAA True Team May 7.

The Lakers were runner-up with 944.5 points, which was well back of champion Rosemount (1,066.5).

Shakopee finished third (751.5), followed by Bloomington Jefferson (732.5), Eastview (689), Burnsville (511.5), Chaska (388), Apple Valley (378.5) and Bloomington Kennedy (371).

The eight section champs make the Class AAA State True Team competition, which is May 17 at Stillwater High School. One wildcard team also qualifies and that is handed out May 10. Check back to see of the Lakers earned it.

If the Lakers did earn it, it would be the program's ninth trip to the state true team in the last 12 years.

At the section true, the relays led the way for the Lakers.

The 4x100 team of ninth-grader Ashlyn Jore, sophomore Emma Bachinski, senior Abigail Yost and junior Taynian Walgrave was a winner (50.43), as was the 4x200 team of junior Aaliyah Guy, sophomore Ashley George and ninth-graders Jillian Hiveley and Juliann Will (1:45.31) and the 4x400 team of Will, sophomores Natalie Thoms and Katie Nollette and ninth-grader Shakayla Williams (4:15.42).

The 4x800 relay team of sophomore Kate Kaisersatt, junior Adaline Hiveley and ninth-grader Amanda Dolby and Sophie Nelson was fourth (10:34.80).

Walgrave won the 200 (26.23) and the 100 hurdles (15.16) for the Lakers, while sophomore Samantha Barrett claimed the triple jump (35-10 1/2).

Guy was runner-up in the 100 (13.13) and the 200 (26.67), while Jillian Hiveley was second in both the 100 hurdles (15.78) and the 300 hurdles (46.91).

Sophomore Olivia Zastrow was fourth in the 3,200 (12.15.18) and sixth in the 1,600 (5:35.62). Senior Jessica Lilland was third in the pole vault (9-6), while Will was fourth in the long jump (15-9 1/2) and George was fifth in the triple jump (33-6 1/2).

In the discus, junior Kalie Crandell took fifth (104-06), while sophomore Jayla Henderson was sixth (102-8 1/2). Crandell was also 10th in the shot put (32-07).

Other finishes for the Lakers: Thoms in the 400 (6th, 1:03.17), Jore in the 100 (10th, 13.69) and the high jump (10th, 4-8), junior Allison Alessi in the 200 (10th, 27.87), Nollette in the 800 (8th, 2:30.75) and the pole vault (9th, 7-6), senior Melissa Pfeiffer in the 800 (8th, 2:31.13), eighth-grader Adeline Knutson in the 3,200 (10th, 12:35.77), George in the 100 hurdles (7th, 16.72), junior Rachel Ring in the high jump (7th, 4-10), Will in the high jump (7th, 4-10) and Bachinski in the pole vault (7th, 8-6).

The South Suburban Conference Championships follow the state true team. They are set for May 21-22 at Rosemount.
