The Prior Lake boys golf team needed two more lower scores to move up in the second South Suburban Conference tournament May 6 at Summit Golf Course in Cannon Falls.

The Lakers had a team score of 328, which put them sixth out of 10 teams. Lakeville North won (300), followed by Eastview (306), Eagan (308), Lakeville South (318) and Farmington (326).

Rosemount was seventh (335), followed by Shakopee (336), Apple Valley (336) and Burnsville (401).

The third SSC tourney is May 13 at Valleywood Golf Course at 2 p.m., while the fourth one is May 14 at Emerald Greens Golf Course at 9 a.m.

In Cannon Falls, sophomore Fred Moede led the Lakers with a 75, while senior Carter Taney had 79. Senior Matt Peterson finished with 84, followed by senior Luke Vathing with 88 and senior Connor Hofslien with 92.

"We took a step back," Lakers coach Brad Bulver said. "Fred is really playing well. My hope is everyone else heals and we fix some things. It's not from a lack of effort. We just need to fight through some things."

Prior Lake played in the Nelson Invitational at the Ridges of Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan May 7. The Lakers were back in the pack, taking 14th out of 16 teams with a score of 353.

Minnetonka won (301), followed by Chaska (304), Waconia (309), Lakeville North (312) and Edina (313).

Hofslien led the Lakers with an 82, followed by sophomores Josh Carlson (88), Nick Nygaard (89), Brody Glass (94) and Bennett Soderberg (107).

"It was a rough day," Bulver said. "But it was a great chance for some younger guys to gain some experience against top teams in the section and state."

Prior Lake was supposed to play in the Rochester Mayo Invitational May 8 at Eastwood Golf Course, but rained pushed the tourney back to May 15 at noon.
