The Prior Lake girls lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season, but not in South Suburban Conference play.

The No. 2-ranked Lakers fell 10-8 at No. 1 Eden Prairie May 20 in what could easily be a preview of the state title game come June 15. A 6-6 game at halftime, the Eagles were able to beat Prior Lake to the finish line.

The Lakers (12-1 overall) followed the loss with a 21-0 win at Eagan to finish 9-0 in the SSC. Prior Lake also earned a 13-3 league win at Lakeville South May 16.

The Lakers have won 36 straight SSC games, going 9-0 in the conference the last four years. The last league loss for Prior Lake was in 2015 when it fell 13-12 to Lakeville South.

Prior Lake went 8-1 in the SSC that season, winning its first eight league contests.

The Section 6 playoffs are next for Prior Lake. The Lakers will be the No. 1 seed, while No. 5 Bloomington Jefferson (9-3) and No. 6 Edina (8-4) look to be No. 2 and 3 seeds, respectively.

Other teams in the field include Minneapolis (9-3), Apple Valley (6-7), St. Louis Park (5-6), Burnsville (4-9), Eastview (4-8), Bloomington Kennedy (5-6) and Holy Angels (3-8).

First-round play starts May 29. The quarterfinals are May 31, followed by the semifinals June 4. The title game is June 6 on the Lakers' home field. Apple Valley is the defending champion.

In the loss to Eden Prairie, last year's state runner-up to Apple Valley, the eight goals were a season low for the Lakers. Sophomore Payton Bloedow scored three times to lead Prior Lake.

In beating Eagan, it was the second shutout win of the season for the Lakers. Prior Lake also blanked Eastview 15-0 back on April 30.

Kropp had four goals and four assists in beating Eagan, while ninth-grader Ava Schiltz had three goals and an assist. Bloedow, Viger, sophomore Meghan McGowan and junior Tayler Netzke each had one goal.
