Junior Jacob Strait and eighth-grader Ashley George represented Prior Lake at the Alpine state ski meet Feb. 15 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.

Strait was making his first-career appearance for the Laker boys, while George was making her second for the girls squad.

Strait ended up 49th overall with a time of 1:31.49 on his two runs. He skied the first run in 49.50, which placed him 62nd. He had the 33rd-best time in the second run (41.99).

Meanwhile, George was in good position for a top-20 finish after her first run, finishing 20th with a time of 40.69. But she did not finish her second run and ended up in 80th place.

George and Strait qualified for state at the Section 6 meet Feb. 7 at Buck Hill. Both earned the eighth individual state berth with Strait taking 11th overall in the boys race and George finishing 12th in the girls competition.

Last year, George finished 38th at state (1:24.30).
