Times Are Coming Down

The Prior Lake boys and girls cross country teams are trying to bring the times down.

The Lakers had a good showing at the Hutchinson Invitational Sept. 14 at Lake Marion County Park with sophomore Mallory Stach winning the 5,000-meter girls race.

Stach finished with a time of 19:45.6, which was roughly five seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher, Kaia Sueker of Marshall.

The Laker girls were fourth in the team standings with 118 points. Seventh-ranked Willmar and No. 4 Marshall tied for first with 55 points with Willmar winning tiebreaker (faster sixth runner from each team). Waseca was third (101)

New Prague ended up fifth (134), followed by Mankato West (141), Buffalo (157), Chaska (205), Mankato East (224) and Orono (241).

Other finishes for the Laker girls: ninth-grader Kathryn Nollette (18th, 21:15.7), ninth-grader Olivia Zastrow (26th, 22:04.0), junior Nicole Kelley (37th, 22:41.2), ninth-grader Katherine Kaisersatt (41st, 23:00.6), junior Alex Bidgood (43rd, 23:02.9), ninth-grader Ella Fitterer (53rd, 23:53.1) and ninth-grader Madeline Reckmeyer (58th, 24:07.8).

On the boys side, the Lakers were second in the team standings with 68 points, which was 10 back of champion Buffalo. Willmar was third (108), followed by Marshall (121), Mankato West (149), Mankato East (151), Waseca (169), Chaska (180), Hutchinson (206), New Prague (207) and Orono (274).

Senior Nicholas Kartschoke led the Laker boys, taking third overall with a time of 17:22.6, while ninth-grader Gabe Smit was sixth (17:28.2) and senior Hayden Olson took ninth (17:30.3).

Other finishes for the boys team: ninth-grader Kyle Nordling (24th, 18:12.8), junior Chase Hebel (27th, 18:18.8), sophomore Shane Draginis (30th 18:20.9) and senior Ben Seme (43rd, 18:47.0).

The Prior Lake boys will run in the Blaze Invitational Sept. 21 at Nicollet Junior High School at 4 p.m. The Laker girls will compete in the Milaca Mega Meet Sept. 23 at Stones Throw Golf Course at 10 a.m.
