There was a little more on the line in the Highway 13 Rumble Jan. 12.

The No. 8-ranked Prior Lake wrestling team and No. 12 New Prague are now Section 2AAA foes, so a higher seed was likely in play when the two programs meet in their annual dual on the Lakers' home mat.

Prior Lake was able to pull out a 35-31 win with junior Hunter Koenig clinching the victory at 220 points with a technical fall to put his team up 35-25 with one match to go.

The Lakers (10-8 overall) went into the dual off a 51-25 win at Farmington the day before in South Suburban Conference action. Prior Lake is 5-0 in league duals.

Prior Lake will get a chance to improve their section seed again Jan. 19 at No. 6 Shakopee in a league dual at 7 p.m. The Lakers are in the Hutchinson Invitational Jan. 20 at 10 a.m.

Against New Prague, the Lakers were down 9-0 after the first two weights, but won five of the next matches to lead 24-12 going into 160 pounds.

Sophomore Chase Bloomquist earned a 5-3 win at 120 pounds for Prior Lake. Seniors Theo Smith and Adam Hanson earned back-to-back falls at 132 and 138 pounds, respectively.

Senior Curtis LeMair earned a technical fall at 145 pounds for Prior Lake, while sophomore Vincent Mosher earned a 9-1 major decision at 152.

After New Prague won by fall at 160, senior Kenny O'Neil got those points right back with a pin at 170 for the Lakers.

In beating Farmington, Prior Lake won eight matches by fall — sophomore Cory St. Martin at 106, Bloominquist at 113, LeMair at 145, Mosher at 152, O'Neil at 170, ninth-grader Billy Trees at 182, senior Zachary Wick at 195 and Koenig at 220.

Smith won 6-1 at 132 pounds for the Lakers.

Prior Lake is still wrestling without two of its top wrestlers in senior Zach Smith, who opened the season ranked No. 4 at 126 pounds, and junior Calvin Sund (No. 3 at 182).

The Lakers other ranked wrestlers are: LeMair (No. 2, 145), O'Neil (No. 3, 170), Theo Smith (No. 4, 132) and Koenig (No. 7, 220).
