Lakers Make Some Splashes In The Season Opener

The Prior Lake synchronized swimming team was in the water for first time this spring April 6.

The Lakers competed in a triangular figures competition in Bloomington against host Jefferson and St. Louis Park, falling 15-14 and 27-2, respectively.

Senior Claire Benson led the way for Prior Lake, finishing sixth overall with a score of 61.961.

"It was good to get our first meet completed," Lakers coach Katy Bohnsack said. "Claire did an excellent job on her figures and placed against both schools. All the girls did a good job."

Junior Carmen Bernu was the Lakers' next-best finisher taking 15th overall (58.982), followed by ninth-grader Sarah McDonald in 17th (58.684) and sophomore Tori Gens in 18th (58.373).

Other finishes for Prior Lake: senior Moira Ling (21st, 57.570), sophomore Marissa Broughten (22nd, 57.232), junior Lauren Baumer (24th, 56.404), junior Hannah Rodewald (26th, 56.044), ninth-grader Libby Bangasser (32nd, 53.965), junior Jenna Difrischia (34th, 53.855), senior Maya Van Heteren-Freeze (35th, 53.452), senior Lydia Block (36th, 53.395), senior McKenna Relling (37th, 52.781), sophomore Jenna Peterson (38th, 52.697), senior Kendra Korbel (39th, 52.443) and junior Courtney Kunkel (41st, 51.232).

Prior Lake's final figures meet is April 13 at home versus Richfield at 5 p.m.

The Lakers' routines season starts April 19 at home versus St. Louis Park, followed by competitions at Richfield (April 24), at Osseo (April 27) and home to both Jefferson and Blake (May 1).

The section meet starts May 15 with figures at Hidden Oaks Middle School in Prior Lake and ends May 19 with routines at Oak Point Intermediate School in Eden Prairie.

The state competition is May 24-25 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
