The Prior Lake synchronized swimming team won three of the four events in its second routines meet of the season April 24.

The Lakers earned a 30-16 victory at Richfield. Prior Lake lost its first routines meet of the season April 19, falling 31-15 at home to St. Louis Park.

The Lakers are back in the pool April 27 at Maple Grove/Osseo at 5 p.m., and will end the regular season May 1 at home in a meet against Blake and Bloomington Jefferson at 5 p.m.

Prior Lake's annual Dolphin Show is set for May 11.

In beating Richfield, senior Claire Benson claimed the top spot in solos with a score of 62.500. She teamed up with senior Moira Ling to win duets (63.667).

In teams, Benson, Ling, junior Lauryn Baumer, sophomores Jennifer Lein, Emma Gahlin, Tori Gens and Marissa Broughten and eighth-grader Alissa Sheffler claimed the top spot (64.500), while the team of ninth-graders Sarah McDonald and Libby Bangasser, juniors Hannah Rodewald and Carmen Bernu, seniors McKenna Relling, Maya Van Heteren-Freeze, Sophia Zielke and Kendra Korbel was second (58.333).

In trios, Baumer, Lein and Scheffler were runner-up (58.667).

"All the routines that swam had made significant progress in their performances over last week," Lakers coach Katy Bohnsack said. "Noticeable areas of improvement were in synchronization and above water height."

Against St. Louis Park, Benson was tops in solos (65.600) for the Lakers' lone win. Benson and Ling were second in duets (63.500), while Bernu, Korbel and Zielke took second in trios (56.600).

In teams, Baumer, Benson, Broughten, Gahlin, Gens, Ling and Scheffler took second (63.800).

"There were some girls out with illness [against St. Louis Park], but the rest of the team stepped up and swam very well," Bohnsack said. "All of these routines swam more than half of their routines and some swam to the end. Claire had an awesome solo that took first place against a tough team like St Louis Park.

"Claire and Moira took second place with their duet and it was exciting to watch," Bohnsack added.

The section meet starts May 15 with figures at Hidden Oaks Middle School in Prior Lake and ends May 19 with routines at Oak Point Intermediate School in Eden Prairie.

The state competition is May 24-25 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
