The Prior Lake boys golf team is making more pars.

Juniors Matthew Peterson and Carter Taney made a bunch of them in back-to-back tournaments for the Lakers.

Peterson shot a 3-over-par 75 May 7 to earn medalist honors at the Prior Lake Invitational at The Wilds Golf Course. He led the Lakers to the team crown.

Prior Lake finished with a four-player total of 322, which was three shots better than Hastings. Lakeville North was third (331), followed by Rochester Mayo (338), Orono and Burnsville (349), Owatonna (350) and Farmington (352).

The Lakers were in the Nelson Invitational at the Ridges of Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan the next day with Taney shooting a 3-over-par 74 to lead the Lakers.

Prior Lake ended up 11th out of 16 teams with a team score of 330. Chaska claimed the crown (297), followed by Minnetonka (304) and Waconia (307). All three of those teams are in Section 2AAA with the Lakers.

“Carter played awesome,” said Lakers coach Brad Bulver. “He fought through some bad weather and was able to still score.”

Taney also led the Lakers in the second SSC tourney May 10 at the Ridges of Sand Creek, shooting a 7-over par 71. Junior Jake Thibault also broke 80 with a 79.

Prior Lake finished fofth with a 320 total with Rosemount winning (315). Lakeville South was second (316).

Meanwhile, at the Nelson invite, sophomore Brenden Jore was Prior Lake’s next-best finisher with 81. Ninth-grader Fred Moede had 85, followed by ninth-grader Nick Nygaard (90), junior Luke Vathing (90) and junior William Bentley (92).

“Brenden also played great,” Bulver said. “He always feels like he left some shots out on the course, but yet produces low numbers.

“It was a tough field with many of the top teams in the state,” Bulver added. “We had to split the team [at our invite to the Nelson invite]. I wanted these guys to get used to playing Ridges, not only to prep for the conference match, but also sections. We have some work to do and we saw first hand what we are up against.”

Other scores for the Lakers in their own invite included junior Connor Hofslien (78), junior John Russell (84), Thibault (85), junior Jackson Jutting (93) and ninth-grader Josh Carlson (93).

Other scores from the second SSC tourney included: Hofslein (81), Jore (82), Moede (84) and Peterson (90).

The third SSC tourney is May 14 at Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley at 2 p.m. The fourth conference event is May 16 at the Meadows at Mystic Lake at 9:30 a.m.

Prior Lake will also compete in the Owatonna Invitational at Owatonna Country Club May 19 at 1:30 p.m.
