McDonald Powers Lakers To Doubleheader Sweep

Ryan McDonald powered the Prior Lake baseball team to a South Suburban Conference sweep in doubleheader action May 10.

The senior catcher went 4 for 6 with two homers, six RBIs and two runs scored in the two games as the Lakers won 3-0 and 8-1 at home, respectively.

Prior Lake improved to 10-1 overall (9-1 in the SSC) and is back on the field May 14 at Lakeville South in a league doubleheader at 3 p.m.

McDonald did all his damage at the plate in the second game versus Farmington. He hit a two-run homer in the third inning and another one in the sixth inning and also had two-run single in the fourth.

The run support helped senior Cameron Bunkers get the win on the mound. He tossed five strong innings, allowing six hits and one earned run, while striking out one. Junior Russ Tanner pitched two scoreless innings of relief, fanning four.

Junior Alex Watermann also homered for the Lakers, finishing 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Senior Mitch Goodwin finished 2 for 3 with two doubles and a run scored. Sophomore Jett Heinen also had an RBI.

In the first game, junior AJ Lattery tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out six to lead the Lakers. Goodwin had an RBI, while senior Corbin Cross doubled and scored a run.

Senior Derek Kay was 2 for 4 with a run scored, while McDonald and sophomore Jonah Hoeg each went 1 for 3.
