Sweep Moves Lakers Little Closer To League Title

The Prior Lake baseball team has put itself in position to win the South Suburban Conference.

The Lakers swept Burnsville in a doubleheader May 7, winning 7-5 in the first game and 5-3 in the nightcap to improve to 7-1 in league action.

Prior Lake (8-1 overall) is home versus Farmington May 10 in a SSC doubleheader at 4:30 p.m. The Lakers are at Lakeville South May 14 for two more league games starting at 3 p.m.

In beating Burnsville in the first game, the Lakers took a 7-4 lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth with senior Corbin Cross delivering an RBI double, followed by sophomore Sam Emmerich's RBI single with two outs.

Senior Mitch Goodwin hit a solo homer for the Lakers and finished with two RBIs. Cross finished 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Junior Alex Watermann was 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored. Senior Parker Haferman also doubled and scored twice.

Seniors Derek Kay and McDonald also drove in runs.

Senior Simen Restad earned the win, working five innings and allowing four unearned runs, while fanning six. Sophomore Jett Heimen got the save with two innings of relief, giving up an unearned run, while fanning four.

In the nightcap, Prior Lake scored three runs in the top of sixth to break open a 2-2 tie with Cross ripping a two-out, two-run double. He finished 3 for 4.

Emmerich and Goodwin each had RBIs, while sophomore Henry Emmerich doubled.

Watermann worked six innings for the win, fanning five and allowing one earned run. Junior AJ Lattery got the save, striking out two in one inning, while giving up a run.
