School Records Fall For Sixth Place Lakers

The Prior Lake boys track team had some strong performances in its fourth straight appearance at the Class 3A State True Team Meet May 18 in Stillwater.

Sophomore Parker Ellis and senior Mitch Wangler set new records in the long jump and the 300 hurdles, respectively. The Lakers ended up sixth in the 12-team field with 838.5 points.

Wayzata won the crown (1,251.5), followed by Mounds View (1,142.5), Hopkins (1,049.5), Rosemount (889.5) and Blaine (863). 

Lakeville South was seventh (807.5), followed by Stillwater (787.5), Cambridge-Isanti (786.5), White Bear Lake (768.5), St. Michael-Albertville (710.5) and Anoka (674).

In the long jump, Ellis took the top spot with a leap of 22-9 3/4, breaking Eryam Tay's mark of 22-3 1/2 set in 2011. 

Wangler finished third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 39.77, breaking the old mark of 40.0 set in 1981. Wangler was also third in the 110 hurdles (15.04).

Junior Keaton Schroeder had two top-six individual finishes for the Lakers taking fourth in the 200 (22.40) and sixth in the 100 (11.33). Senior Ikedi Abasiri was second in the 200 (22.35) and tied for eighth in the high jump (6-2).

In the 400, senior Daniel Wee was fourth for the Lakers (50.93), while sophomore Michael Wu was seventh (51.60). Ninth-grader Gabe Smit was sixth in the 3,200 (9:43.62). 

In the discus, junior Mathias Saad earned a top-10 finish taking 10th (134-04).

Ellis tied for 14th in the high jump (6-2), while senior Jordan Wakeman was 14th in the 300 hurdles (41.72).

In the relays, the Lakers' 4x200 and 4x400 teams were both third with times of 1:31.31 and 3:27.57, respectively. The 4x100 team was fifth (43.60).
