Top-seeded Lakers knock off Eastview in semifinals, 16-11

The Prior Lake girls lacrosse team will get a familiar foe for the Section 6 title.

The top-seeded Lakers and second-seeded Apple Valley will meet for the crown for the third straight year June 7 at the Edina Community Center June 7 at 5:30 p.m.

Top-ranked Prior Lake (15-0) takes a seven-game winning streak into the contest over the No. 3 Eagles (14-1). The Lakers beat the Eagles 11-10 in overtime during South Suburban Conference play back on May 1.

Prior Lake earned a 16-11 win over fifth-seeded Eastview in the semifinals June 5 at Holy Angels and rolled to a 23-2 home victory over ninth-seeded St. Louis Park in the quarterfinals June 1.

In beating Eastview, a quick start from the Lakers was the different. They team was up 5-0 early and 8-2 at the break and held on in the second half.

Individual stats for both Lakers' quarterfinal and semifinals wins have not been made available.

If the Lakers beat Apple Valley in the final, they team will be the No. 1 seed in state play, which starts June 12 at Minnetonka High School with the quarterfinals. The semifinals are June 14 at Chanhassen with the title game June 16 at Chanhassen at 3:30 p.m.

Eden Prairie has won the last three state titles. Prior Lake beat the second-ranked Eagles 6-5 at home back on May 19. It was Eden Prairie's first loss to a Minnesota team in 64 games.

Before that game, the Eagles had not lost to a Minnesota team since falling to Blake in the 2014 state title game.

Prior Lake has finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively in the last three state tourneys.
