Enough Clay Targets Are Hit On The State Range

The Prior Lake trap shooting team hit enough targets to qualify for one more state competition.

The Lakers finished fourth in Class 8A at the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League's State Championships June 18 at Alexandria Shooting Park.

There are nine classes in the MSHSCTL and a combined 40 teams qualify for the Minnesota State High School League state competition, which is June 22 at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake. The Lakers will be one of the 40 teams to participate.

Prior Lake had a varsity team score of 478 up in Alexandria. That was 12 points back of champion New Prague. Fairmont was second in the 15-team field with a 483 points, followed by Perham (480).

Blake Conrad led the Laker boys at state, finishing tied for fifth overall with 97 targets hit out of 100. Kalob Dorn and Tyler Kingery were both tied for 14th for Prior Lake (96), while Thomas Beyer tied for 22nd (95) and Joseph Arvidson and Joren Lund ended up tied for 38th (94).

Other Lakers who hit 90 or more targets included: John Schultz and Gabe Czajkowski (T46th 93), Caleb Brennan (T57th, 92), Wesley Brainard, Matthew Ebhardt, Blake Rix and Logan Bartusek (T70th, 91) and Brennen Stier and Joshua Langhorst (T83rd, 90).

Other finishes: Zac Klingfus, Brandon Krivitz and Vincent Mosher (T101st, 89), Logan Cloos, Jacob Courteau and Justin Kingery (116th, 88), Kyle Peterson and Evan Larson (T132nd, 87), Austin Swan, Tanner Thompson, Jeremiah Caldwell and Jake Doll (T147th, 86), Dalton Dahlquist, Reid Larson, Ben Brainard, Ethan Hagland and Colton Warren (T168th, 84), Brenden Steltz and Jace Kahnke (T186th, 83), Zach Johnson (T199th, 82), David Eckstrom (T206th, 81), Dylan Miears (T215th, 80), Charles Yagla (T222nd, 79), Benjamin McGarness (T227th, 78), Jake Sernett and Alec Peterson (T233rd, 77), Calvin Suor and Andrew Buckeye (T238th, 76), Ian Wheatcraft (T242nd, 75), Nicholas Erbes (T249th, 74), Seth Nelson, Sam Christopherson and Evan Delain (T254th, 73) and Gavin Goetz (T269th, 65).

For the Laker girls, Sydney Nelson tied for seventh with a score of 87. She was the only female competing for Prior Lake at the varsity level.
