Jackson Jutting will get to test his skills against some of the top 18-year-old skaters in the world.

The Prior Lake junior was selected to the U.S. Under-18 Men's Select Team that will compete in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup Aug. 6-11 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. The U.S. squad will be competing alongside teams from Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland.

It's the first time the games have been played in North America since 1996.

"Excited and honored to have been selected to represent team USA in Edmonton this August at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup," Jutting tweeted following his selection.

Jutting, a 5-foot-10-inch, 178-pound forward, is one of four Minnesotans named to the team, along with Chaska defenseman Mike Koster, Edina forward Grant Silianoff and Roseau forward Aaron Huglen. Michigan has the most players on the 21-player team with five.

The annual Hlinka Gretzky Cup is considered one of the best 18U tournaments in the world. The competition began in 1991 as the Phoenix Cup and was renamed the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in 2007, before becoming the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup in 2018.

The U.S. Under-18 Men's Select Team has won the tournament once back in 2003, while earning second-place finishes in 2016, 2013, 2010, 2006, 2000, 1996, 1994 and 1993.

Jutting has been competing in USA Hockey Boys Select 17 National Player Development Camp in Amherst, New York, which ended July 2 following the final sections for the Under-18 team.

Some of the top players from Minnesota were selected to represent the state at the camp, following their performances at the CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance Final 54 Festivals held at Plymouth Ice Center back in May.

Jutting is a three-time letterwinner for the Prior Lake boys hockey team. He led the team in scoring this past winter with 21 goals and 16 assists.

As a sophomore, Jutting also led the Lakers in points with 27 (10 goals, 17 assists). In his first season with Prior Lake as a ninth-grader, Jutting helped the team reach the Section 2AA title game, finishing with 12 goals and 16 assists.

The Lakers lost 4-2 to Eden Prairie in the final.

Following the high school season this past winter, Jutting also played a couple games in the United States Hockey League with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders. Jutting has verbally committed to play Division I hockey at the Colorado College.

Back in May of 2017, Jutting, a sophomore at the time, was selected in the annual USHL Draft. He was the first pick of the fifth round (66th overall) by Cedar Rapids.

The USHL Draft takes place during the first week of May each year and is completed in two phases. Phase I of the draft is 10 rounds of "future-aged" players.

Phase II of the draft is open to players of all ages, who are eligible to play junior hockey that next year and who are not currently protected by another USHL team.
