Chris Fleck took the Prior Lake boys lacrosse to higher heights.

Now, he's stepping down as coach six weeks after leading the Lakers to a second state title in three seasons.

"It’s time for me to step down as head coach to spend more time with my family," Fleck tweeted. "Man, I loved coaching [this team]. I am going to miss it so much. What a wild ride it's been."

Fleck and Brandt Chalpusky were co-head coaches starting in 2010. In 2012, Fleck took over the head job by himself and built the Lakers into a state power. Over the last four seasons, Prior Lake has a record of 61-12, including three straight Section 6 titles.

Between the two state titles, Prior Lake was sixth at state in 2017. The Lakers also won the South Suburban Conference title in 2015 with a perfect 9-0 mark.

"Not all heroes wear capes," tweeted Carter Collins, a 2017 Prior Lake graduate. "Thank you coach Fleck for everything you have done for me, the Prior Lake Lacrosse program and the Laker community. I wouldn’t be the lacrosse player or the man I am today if I didn’t have you by my side."

"Wow, best coach out there," tweeted Matt Denman, a 2016 Prior Lake graduate. "Nothing but greatness. You are going to be missed. Prior Lake was very lucky to have you. An all time beauty that always knew how to have fun and win at the same time. From our Florida trip to winning state, not a single coach I’d rather play for."

"It has been a pleasure sharing the sidelines with you," tweeted Rosemount coach Lance Kuehn. "We had some legendary games against each other. Good luck in your future endeavors."

"Congratulations on a legendary run," tweeted Lakeville North coach Tony Ghilani, whose team lost to the Lakers 12-5 in the state final in 2016.

Prior Lake beat Benilde-St. Margaret's for the title this past spring, winning 10-8 over the top seed.

With Chalpusky, Fleck and the Lakers finished with 8-7 records in their first two seasons. When Fleck took over the program on his own, he had a 5-10 mark in 2012, but followed with six straight winning seasons.

Prior Lake lost in the Section 3 title game in back-to-back years to Rosemount and Bloomington Jefferson in 2014 and 2015, respectively, before breaking down that state door in 2016.
