Cruising To A Third Conference Dual Victory

The Prior Lake girls swimming team cruised to its third South Suburban Conference dual win Sept. 13.

The Lakers won eight of 12 events in rolling to a 98-83 home win over Apple Valley to improve to 3-0 in conference action. Senior Skylar Welle won two individual events to lead the way.

Prior Lake is back in the pool in SSC dual action Sept. 20 at Lakeville South at 6 p.m.

The Lakers will compete in the annual Duals in the Pool Invitational in Hutchinson Sept. 22 at 10:30 a.m. and will swim in the Greyhound Invitational at Duluth East Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.

Against Apple Valley, Welle won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.67 and the 100 butterfly (59.83). Sophomore Mary O'Neil claimed the 100 freestyle (54.98), while sophomore Ella Knutson was tops in the 50 freestyle (25.24).

Eighth-grader Maria Soria won the 500 freestyle (5:45.91) for the Lakers and ninth-grader Grace Netz was victorious in the 200 individual medley (2:16.93).

The Lakers also won two of three relays. O'Neil, Welle, Knutson and junior Julia Ondracek won the 200 medley relay (1:51.66), while Soria, Knutson and seniors Maddy Mjoen and Olivia Hartell claimed the 400 freestyle relay (3:43.38).

Runner-up finishes for Prior Lake went to: Soria in the 200 freestyle (2:05.80), Mjoen in the 50 freestyle (26.10), Ondracek in the 100 butterfly (1:01.83), Hartell in the 100 freestyle (57.28), sophomore Elin Kairies in the 500 freestyle (5:50.09), ninth-grader Brooke Bauer in the 100 backstroke (1:05.79), O'Neil in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.93) and the 200 freestyle team of Mjoen, Bauer, Soria and junior Gabrielle Jensen (1:46.64).
