Netters Close In On SSC Title, Edge Section Foes

The Prior Lake girls tennis continues to dominate the South Suburban Conference.

The No. 6-ranked Lakers improved to 5-0 in league play with a 5-2 victory at Lakeville North Sept. 12. Prior Lake also earned a 6-1 victory at Lakeville South the day before and a 4-3 win at Eden Prairie Sept. 14 in a battle of Section 2AA foes.

Prior Lake (9-2 overall) is competing in the Edina Invitational Sept. 15 starting at 9 a.m. The field is loaded, including the top-ranked host Hornets, No. 2 Minnetonka, No. 3 Rochester Mayo, No. 4 Mounds View, No. 7 Hopkins, Matomedi and Breck, ranked No. 2 in Class 1A.

The Lakers are home to Farmington Sept. 18 and No. 5 Eastview Sept. 20 in SSC matches at 3:45 p.m. Prior Lake has won six of the last seven conference titles.

In beating Eden Prairie, the Lakers won all four singles matches in straight sets en route to the victory. Senior Charlotte Bowles won at the top spot (6-1, 6-0), followed by senior Kathy Wu at No. 2 (6-2, 6-3), seventh-grader Tianna Houske at No. 3 (6-2, 6-0) and senior Madeline Roess at No. 4 (6-2, 6-1).

Against Lakeville South, Prior Lake also won all four singles matches in straight sets. Bowles won at No. 1 (6-3, 6-3), followed by junior Nic Keller (6-3, 6-3) at No. 2, Kathy Wu (6-0, 6-3) at No. 3 and Roess (6-1, 6-2) at No 4.

Doubles wins went to Houske and sophomore Kelly Wu at No. 1 (6-4, 6-3) and senior Elizabeth Dolby and seventh-grader Ella Joesting at No. 3 (6-2, 5-7, 10-2).

In beating Lakeville North, wins in singles for the Lakers went to Bowles at No. 1 (6-1, 6-0), Kathy Wu at No. 2 (6-0, 6-1) and Roess at No. 4 (7-5. 6-1).

Doubles wins included: Houske and Kelly Wu at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1) and senior Peyton Johnson and sophomore Katelyn Lam at No. 3 (6-1, 6-4).
