Sixth-ranked Lakers Continue To Make Big Waves

The Prior Lake girls swimming team is still perfect in South Suburban Conference waters.

The No. 6-ranked Lakers improved to 4-0 in SSC dual action Sept. 20 with a 97-84 win at Lakeville South. Prior Lake followed going 4-2 in the Duals in the Pools Invitational in Hutchinson Sept. 22.

The Lakers had wins over Benilde-St. Margaret's (119-65), Cathedral St John's Prep (149-37), Tri City United (153-23) and Mankato West (132-54) with their losses to the host Tigers (100-86) and Visitation (115-71).

Prior Lake is back in league dual action Sept. 27 at No. 8 Eagan at 6 p.m. The Lakers will also be competing in the Greyhound Invitational Sept. 29 starting at 9 a.m.

In the win over Lakeville South, the Lakers claimed 10 of 12 events, including all three relays. Senior Julia Ondracek was tops in two individual events, taking home the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.44 and the 200 freestyle (2:07.43).

Senior Skylar Welle, sophomores Ella Knutson and Mary O'Neil and ninth-grader Grace Netz teamed up to win the 200 medley relay (1:53.60), as did O'Neil, Welle, eighth-grader Maria Soria and senior Olivia Hartell in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.85) and Welle, Hartell, O'Neil and ninth-grader Brooke Bauer in the 400 freestyle relay (3:49.82).

Welle also won the 500 freestyle (5:39.55), while O'Neil claimed the 100 butterfly (54.51) and junior Gabby Jensen was tops in the 100 freestyle (1:03.24). Senior Mandy Mjoen was victorious in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.67) and ninth-grader Alaina Wolter won diving (163.60 points).

Individual runner-up finishes went to: Knutson in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.85), ninth-grader Abby Mattila in the 100 backstroke (1:08.87), Soria in the 50 freestyle (25.94) and Jensen in the 200 individual medley (2:27.51).

At the invite, the Lakers' 200 medley relay team of Welle, O'Neil, Netz and Knutson had the best overall time (1:50.55), while O'Neil has the top time in the 100 butterfly (58.97) and and Welle claimed the 100 breaststroke (1:06.34).

Prior Lake's 200 freestyle relay team of Soria, Mjoen, Welle and Hartell took third overall (1:42.80), while the 400 freestyle team of Knutson, Moen, O'Neil and Hartell ended up fourth (3:46.59).

O'Neil also had a strong showing the 200 freestyle taking third (1:59.29), while Welle was third in the 200 individual medley (2:12.27). Knutson was fourth in the 50 freestyle (25.36), while Hartell was fifth in the 100 freestyle (56.77).

In the 100 breaststroke, the Lakers had three in the top five with Netz in third (1:10.86) and Soria in fourth (1:11.01).

In diving, Prior Lake also finished third and fourth with Wolter (170.65) and sophomore Sarah McDonald (151.15), respectively.

Other top-eight individual finishes for Prior Lake included: Netz in the 200 individual medley (6th, 2:19.44), Hartell in the 50 freestyle (7th, 25.83), Jensen in the 100 butterfly (8th, 1:03.38), Soria in the 100 freestyle (8th, 57.39) and Bauer in the 500 freestyle (7th, 5:33.20).
