The Prior Lake girls cross country team is trying to keep pace on the trails.

The Lakers are still running without junior Mallory Stach, their four-time state qualifier, who has still recovering from a stress fracture from the spring track season. She's expected back in October at some point, perhaps before the South Suburban Conference Championships Oct. 12 at Eagan.

So Prior Lake has not been at full strength yet, including at the Milaca Mega Meet Sept. 22 at Stones Throw Golf Course. Competing in the Division I girls' 5,000-meter race, the Lakers ended up 16th out of 25 schools with 400 points.

Top-ranked Wayzata won the crown (34), followed by No. 2 Edina (74), No. 8 Andover (75), No. 4 Stillwater (78) and No. 9 Forest Lake (123).

Senior Nicole Kelley had a strong race for the Lakers, finishing 20th overall with a time of 19:25.40. Sophomore Olivia Zastrow was the team's next-best finisher in 62nd (20:40.8).

Other finishes: junior Adaline Hiveley (93rd, 21:19.90), sophomore Katherine Kaisersatt (109th, 21:39.90), senior Brittney Helget (120th, 21:50.90), senior Gabby Gail (150th, 23:08.20) and junior Bella Wold (165th, 24:44.50).

Prior Lake will be back on the trails Sept. 27 in its own invite at Pond's Park at 3:30 p.m. The Laker boys will also compete. The boys were supposed to compete in the Blaze Invitational Sept. 20, but that competition was cancelled due to severe weather.

Both Prior Lake squads will also run in the Victoria Lions Invitational at the Chaska Par 30 Golf Course Oct. 2.
