Prior Lake Mountain Bike Teams Take Third and First at Recent Tournaments

The Prior Lake High School and middle school mountain biking teams have done well at recent tournaments.

On Sept. 16, the teams of high school students and middle school students competed in Rochester on the Gamehaven mountain biking route. The high school team took third, with 3,825 points.

Tom Beyer, Calvin Sandberg, Bryce Moore, Tyson Handevidt and Grady Hall were the top five scorers, earning the team a collective 2,509 points.

Duluth East High School took second place overall behind Stillwater High School.

The middle school team took first place at the same tournament with 1,927 points overall. The top five scorers were Jack Tocko with 500 points, Alex Krawza with 490 points, Owen Meyer with 481 points, Gavin Ptak with 464 points and Jaiden Zollman with 456 points.

On Sept. 30, the teams raced in a tournament at Detroit Mountain in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. The Prior Lake High School team took fifth in the tournament — behind Southwest Minneapolis, Stillwater High School, Hopkins High School and Duluth East High School.

The top five scorers were Sandberg with 565 points, Beyer with 556 points, Clarissa Wegener with 488 points, Julie Wegener with 456 points and Micah Larson with 448 points.

The middle school team took second in the same tournament with 1,909 points, just shy of the Stillwater middle school team.

The top five scorers were Tocko with 500 points, Krawza with 481 points, Zollman with 464 points, Meyer with 464 points and Aeden Gallagher with 441 points.

The teams will head to Mankato on Oct. 29 for the state championship.
