The Prior Lake wrestling team will open the season unranked in Class 3A for the first time since 2009.

The Lakers do have three individuals ranked in the top 10 at their respective weights — sophomore Teagan Block at 106, junior Cory St. Martin at 126 and senior Calvin Sund at 182. The first rankings were released Nov. 9 by The Guillotine.

Section 2AAA lead the way in the team rankings with four teams in the top 12 — No. 1 Shakopee, No. 2 Apple Valley, No. 11 New Prague and No. 12 Rosemount.

St. Michael-Albertville, the defending Class 3A state champion, opens as the No. 4-ranked team.

Sund was the state runner-up last year at 182 pounds, falling 6-4 in the title match to Cade King of Owatonna, who is back to defend his crown and opens the season ranked No. 1 at that weight. Zach Glazier of Albert Lea Area is ranked No. 2.

Sund finished last season with a 24-4 overall mark.

Block and St. Martin are both ranked No. 8 at their respective weights. Both will be seeking their first trips to state this winter.

Section 2AAA had 29 individuals ranked in the 14 weight classes, including five at No. 1 — Paxton Creese of Shakopee at 113, Sebas Swiggum of Apple Valley at 145, Devin Roberts of Apple Valley at 160, Ezayah Oropeza of Rosemount at 220 and Bryce Benhart of Lakeville North at heavyweight.

Shakopee had the most ranked wrestlers in the section with seven, followed by Apple Valley with six, New Prague with four, Lakeville North, Lakeville South and Prior Lake each with three, Rosemount with two and Eastview with one.
