The Prior Lake gymnastics team had its season-best score at the New Prague Invitational Jan. 5.

The Lakers finished sixth in the 10-team field with a total of 134.550. Pine Island-Zumbrota-Mazeppa won the title (141.300), while the host Trojans were second (141.050) and Mankato West was third (139.650).

Prior Lake also had a home meet versus Breck Jan. 8, winning with a score of 131.65 compared to the Mustangs' 125.05.

The Lakers are in the Lakeville North Invitational Jan. 12 at 9 a.m. and will compete in a South Suburban Conference meet Jan. 15 at Rosemount at 6 p.m.

"Both meets went well," Lakers coach Barb Kass said. "We had a lot of stuck beam routines [at New Prague], but we had some missteps as girls are beginning to add skills learned over break to their routines. It'll take some time to get it all together."

At New Prague, eighth-grader Terin Block had a strong showing on the balance beam, finishing fifth with a score of 9.00.

"Terin had an amazing beam routine," Kass said.

Sophomore Lydia Pavek finished 13th in the all-around for the Lakers with a score of 33.550. She was seventh on the vault (9.150) and eighth on the uneven bars (8.250).

Sophomore Hannah Walter also competed in the all-around for the Lakers, finishing with a total of 33.250. Junior Maddie Tschida had the Lakers' best score on the floor exercise (8.7).

In the meet versus Breck, Pavek won the all-around with a score of 33.225, while Walter was second (32.2).

Pavek won the vault (8.975), while ninth-grader Avery Wild was third (8.45) and Tschida was seventh (8.275).

Pavek also claimed the top spot on the uneven bars (8.15), while ninth-grader Sydney Springer was third (8.0) and Walter was fourth (7.825). Eighth-grader Alex Burger was sixth (7.7), while Block was seventh (7.675).

Block won the balance beam (8.575) followed by Pavek (3rd, 8.05), Walter (4th, 7.775), seventh-grader Brooke Thompson (5th, 7.75) and ninth-grader Kylie Thompson (6th, 7.65).

On the floor, Kylie Thompson had the Lakers' top score, winning with an 8.8 while Tschida was second (8.65), Walter was third (8.375) and Pavek was fourth (8.05).

"The meet against Breck started off a little interesting, as Breck was an hour late arriving for warm-ups," Kass said. "However, our girls handled it well and had our first win of the season. Lydia had a great meet winning the all-around."
