The Prior Lake boys swimming team faced some top competition at the Maroon & Gold Invitational Jan. 5 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The No. 8-ranked Lakers ended up 10th in the team standings with 123 points. Top-ranked Edina won the title (548), followed by Omaha Creighton Prep (485.5) and No. 5 Wayzata (448).

Blake/Breck, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, was fourth (396.5), followed by No. 6 Stillwater (372), No. 3 Eden Prairie (299), No. 4 Shakopee (251), No. 2 Minnetonka (205) and Maple Grove (147).

Tenth-ranked Eagan ended up 11th (122), followed by Forest Lake (63) and Minnehaha Academy (34).

Prior Lake went into the invite off a 95.5 to 90.5 victory at Eagan in a South Suburban Conference dual Jan. 4. The Lakers improved to 2-2 in league competition.

Prior Lake is back in dual action at Rosemount Jan. 11 and is at Lakeville North Jan. 15. Both SSC duals start at 6 p.m.

At the invite, seniors Erik Thompson and Sean Dwyer had the Lakers' top finishes. Dywer was runner-up in diving with 229.70 points, while Dwyer was second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.07.

Dwyer was also third in the 200 individual medley (1:57.65), while sophomore Tyler Buss was 15th (2:05.07).

Prior Lake's best relay finish came from the 200 freestyle team of Dwyer, Buss and juniors Jaden Chant and Owen Mattila, which was 10th (1:32.93). The same foursome made up the 400 freestyle team that finished 13th (3:25.11).

The 200 medley team of sophomore Nicholas Archambault, senior Trey Hirt and sophomores Jackson Mishuk and Gunnar Anderson was 25th (1:51.02).

In beating Eagan, Prior Lake won the 400 freestyle relay to secure the dual win. Mattila, Buss, Chant and Dwyer had a winning time of 3:19.48. Mattila, Chant, Dwyer and Anderson teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.32).

Dwyer was also tops in the 200 freestyle (1:47.91) and the 500 freestyle (4:56.47). Thompson claimed the diving competition (260.75), while Chant won the 50 freestyle (23.37) and Archambault took home the 100 backstroke (1:00.04).

Second-place finishes for the Lakers went to: Buss in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.43), Chant in the 100 freestyle (49.17), Mishuk in the 100 butterfly (59.89), Anderson in the 50 freestyle (23.84) and the 200 medley relay team of Archambault, Buss, Anderson and eighth-grader Blake Viger (1:47.71).
