Dawson Garcia continues to score at a high rate for the No. 2-ranked Prior Lake boys basketball team.

The 6-foot-10 junior forward went over 1,000 points for his career Jan. 3 in the Lakers' 93-62 home win over Chanhassen in a battle of Section 2AAAA foes. Garcia pumped in 35 points in the victory.

Prior Lake followed with a 75-60 victory versus Lakeville South the next day in South Suburban Conference play with Garcia leading the way with 26 points.

The Lakers (6-1 overall, 2-0 in the SSC) is back on the court Jan. 8 at Farmington and will stay on the road Jan. 11 to take on Eagan. Both SSC games start at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, Garcia's next Laker milestone will likely be the all-time scoring mark. That's held by Jon Sobaski, a 2014 graduate, who finished his Lakers' career with 1,512 career points.

Garcia is averaging 30.3 points for Prior Lake through seven games, leading the team to six straight wins after the team opened the season with a 66-64 loss to No. 1 Park Center.

In the win over Lakeville South, senior Robert Jones finished with 16 points for the Lakers, adding 11 rebounds. Garcia also had 10 boards. Senior Sam Nissen finished with 11 points and four assists, while senior Jackyse Jacox had eight points.

Against Chanhassen, the Lakers had four in double figures with Jones scoring 16, followed by Nissen with 11 and junior Tyree Ihenacho with 10.
