The Prior Lake wrestling team didn't have its entire lineup intact at the Rochester Century Invitational Jan. 26.

But the Lakers still had nine on the medal stand, including senior Calvin Sund winning the 195-pound title. Prior Lake ended up third in the team standings with 155.5 points. That was one point shy of second-place Maple River, while Lakeville South won the crow (245.4).

Jackson County Central was fourth in the 10-team field (138), followed by Cannon Falls (128.5).

Prior Lake went into the invite off a 44-18 home loss to No. 1-ranked Shakopee Jan. 24 in South Suburban Conference dual action. The Lakers are home to No. 3 Apple Valley Jan. 31 in another league a dual at 7 p.m.

Prior Lake (9-9 overall, 5-2 in the SSC) will compete in a triangular competition at Jordan Feb. 1 against Scott West and Belle Plaine at 5 p.m. The Lakers will end the regular season Feb. 7 at Burnsville in an SSC dual at 7 p.m.

The Section 2AA team tournament is Feb. 15 at Burnsville. The Lakers are likely to get the No. 5 seed behind Shakopee, Apple Valley, No. 6 New Prague and Lakeville South.

Eastview, Lakeville North, Rosemount and Burnsville are also in the field.

In the loss to Shakopee, Prior Lake's wins came from junior Chase Bloomquist at 132 pounds (4-3), ninth-grader Cole Edwards at 138 (3-0), sophomore Billy Trees at 182 (forfeit) and Sund at 195 (fall).

Sund is ranked No. 1 in the state at 195 pounds. The Lakers' other ranked wrestler is sophomore Teagan Block, who is No. 10 at 106.

At the invite, Sund went 2-0 to win his title, including a win by fall in the final over Noah DeGroot of LaCrosse Aquinas.

Block ended up second at 113, earning a fall in the first round and winning by a 5-0 decision in the semifinals. He lost by major decision (9-1) in the title match to Erwin Strelow of Cannon Falls.

Third-place finishes for the Lakers went to Edwards at 138, senior Logan Edwards at 160 and Trees at 182. Junior Cory St. Martin was fourth at 126, as was senior Scott Gray at 152 and ninth-grader TJ Gonser at heavyweight. Sophomore Colton Sund was fifth at 145.

The Section 2AAA individual tournament will be Feb. 22-23 at Rosemount. The top-two finishers in each of the 14 weight classes make the state field.

Calvin Sund was the state runner-up last year at 182 pounds. This year's state competition starts Feb. 28 with the team tourney. The individual tourney is March 1-2 and all three days are at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Fourth-ranked St. Michael-Albertville is the defending state team champion.
