Depth is a wonder thing. Talent is too.

And the Prior Lake girls track team has an abundance of both, proving it yet again at the Section 3AAA True Team meet May 6 in Apple Valley. The Lakers earned their sixth straight berth into the Class AAA State True Team, which is May 16 in Stillwater.

Prior Lake was challenged by Eagan, beating the Wildcats by 49 points for the title and finishing with 1,143. Eastview was a distant third (806), followed by Shakopee (781.5), Rosemount (765), Burnsville (700), Apple Valley (638), Chaska (601.5), Bloomington Jefferson (515) and Bloomington Kennedy (281).

How wonderful is depth? Ask the Lakers in the pole vault where they finished one-two-three. Junior Ella Francis won with a height of 10-6, while senior Marianna Kramer was second (10-6) and senior Courtney Spang was third (10-0).

What about talent? How about senior Kasie Vollmer winning both the discus (148-01) and the shot put (41-10) and junior Sarah Schrader doing the same in the long (17-5) and triple jumps (35-8).

The Lakers also had three top-six finishes in the high jump, while senior Bolade Jinadu had three top-three finishes in the sprints. The Lakers also won two of four relays and senior Mackenzie Schell had two top-four finishes.

Again, talent and depth - on display.

The Lakers have finished second to Lakeville South at the state true team the last two years. The Cougars will again be a force this season, as will Minnetonka and Mounds View. Prior Lake was third at state in 2011 and 2010 and runner-up in 2009.

Meanwhile, at the section true team, Jinadu was second in the 100 (13.17) and the 200 (26.35) and third in the 400 (1:00.06). Schell was runner-up in the 800 (2:22.43) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:20.23).

Scholl won the high jump with a height of 5-6, while sophomore Sarah Ring was fourth (5-0) and senior Alex Collins was sixth (5-0).

Senior Sabrina Hille was third in the 200 (26.86) and sophomore Nicole Hoepner was fourth in the 100 (13.35).

Along with winning the pole vault, Francis was also second in the triple jump (35-3 1/3), fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.04) and fifth in the long jump (15-9 1/4). Her versatility has been unmatched this spring.

Senior Tessa Rykken also earned a top-four finish taking fourth in the 3,200 (11:42.06).

The Lakers' 4x100 relay team of Schrader, Hoepner, eighth-grader Alisa Robbins and sophomore Eva Passek was a winner (50.83), as was the 4x200 team of Hoepner, Hille, senior Lydia Houle and eighth-grader Kristyn Arends (1:46.01).

The 4x800 team of Scholl, seniors Macy Violett and Megan Lesmeister and sophomore Olivia Thielen was third (9:51.04), while the 4x400 team of Lesmeister, Thielen, sophomore Olivia Schroeder and senior Alex Elshaw was fifth (4:12.33).

Other top-10 finishes: Houle in the 300 hurdles (5th, 48.08) and the 100 hurdles (8th, 17.09), Robbins in the 100 (8th, 13.40), Arends in the 200 (6th, 27.37), Schroeder in the 400 (8th, 1:01.87), Hille in the 400 (8th, 1:01.87), Violett in the 800 (8th, 2:28.02), Scholl in the 800 (9th, 2:29.25), ninth-grader Gabriella Brinkley in the 3,200 (10th, 12:12.53), Collins in the 100 hurdles (7th, 16.87) and the long jump (8th, 15-7 1/2) and Lesmeister in the 300 hurdles (7th, 50.02).

The South Suburban Conference Championships follow the state true team and are May 20-21 in Eagan.
