The Prior Lake boys soccer team cruised in its season opener Aug. 23.

The Lakers got four goals from four different players in a 4-1 win at White Bear Lake in a non-conference game. Sophomore Steve Wright had a goal and an assist, while junor Badaso Adem had two assists.

Prior Lake will play at No. 3-ranked Edina at the Edina Community Center Aug. 26 at 8:30 p.m. It's a rematch of last year's Section 2AA title game, a 4-1 Hornets win.

Lakers coach Mike Shebuski was pleased with his team's effort in the opening win.

"The first game of the year always arrives before you feel ready, but I was pleased with how hard we played and how well the boys worked together," said Shebuski. "We asked the boys to focus on coming out of the gates strong, and I think we did that. There are certainly things we can improve, but it was a good start."

Prior Lake led 2-0 after the first half on goals from Wright and senior Austin Gaffney. Junior Adam Grund and senior Austin Clifford scored in the second half.

Senior Nick Sabin chipped in an assist. Senior Matt Bateman made six saves in goal.

Prior Lake will play at Chanhassen (another Section 2AA foe) Aug. 28 and will open the South Suburban Conference season Sept. 2 at Lakeville South. Both of those games are at 5:30 p.m.
