The Prior Lake girls tennis team hit the 30 mark Sept. 11.

That's 30 straight South Suburban Conference wins, which dates back to the start of the 2011 season. The No. 2-ranked Lakers swept all three doubles matches in a 6-1 home win over Apple Valley.

Prior Lake improved to 6-0 overall (4-0 in the SSC).

"It was a cold and windy day and Apple Valley is a good team, but we managed to get the job done," said Lakers coach Kris Schneider.

Apple Valley has been ranked in the Class AA poll, reaching No. 9 a couple of weeks ago. The Eagles have one on the better singles players in the state in Malini Wijesinghe, who is ranked No. 7. She beat the Lakers' No. 1 singles, sophomore Savanna Crowell, in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-3).

"That could have gone either way," said Schneider.

Winning in singles for Prior Lake were junior Chloe Hall at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2), ninth-grader Taylor Jackson at No. 3 (4-6, 6-3, 10-6) and junior Grayce Petersen at No. 4 (6-2, 6-1).

In doubles, the Lakers' No. 1 team of senior Dani Keller and seventh-grader Nic Keller won in straight sets (6-1, 7-6), while the No. 2 team of senior Alison Wagner and junior Sydney Soeffker also rolled (6-0, 6-2). Junior Kayli French and eighth-grader Charlotte Bowles won at the third spot (6-0, 4-6, 6-3).

Prior Lake is back on the court at Lakeville North Sept. 15 and at Rosemount Sept. 16 in SSC matches at 4 p.m. The Lakers are back home Sept. 18 versus Shakopee in league play at 3:45 p.m.

Prior Lake gets a crack at No. 1 Edina Sept. 22 on the road at 4 p.m. The Hornets have won the last 17 Class AA state titles.
