It was a needed win for both the Prior Lake and Burnsville boys basketball teams if they had any hope for a top-four playoff seed.

Advantage Prior Lake.

Senior Kevin McKiernan finished with a game-high 23 points in the Lakers' 72-57 South Suburban Conference road win over the Blaze Feb. 13 in a battle of Section 2AAAA foes.

Prior Lake (11-13 overall, 9-7 in the SSC) swept the season series from Burnsville (8-16 overall, 5-11 in the SSC).

Each team has two SSC games left to close out the regular season. Prior Lake is home to Eagan Feb. 17 and at Lakeville North Feb. 20, while the Blaze is at Rosemount and home to Lakeville South the same days. All four games start at 7 p.m.

Seeds for Section 2AAAA come out Feb. 21. They are based solely on QRF rankings, which can be found at www.minnesota-scores.net.

The Blaze will likely need to beat section foe Lakeville South to get higher than the No. 7 seed. Two wins from the Lakers and they'll likely get the No. 4 spot.

Ninth-ranked Shakopee (17-7) will be the No. 1 seed, followed by Chaska (18-6) and Bloomington Jefferson (15-6). Chanhassen (14-10), Lakeville South (11-13) and the Lakers seem to by vying for the No. 4 seed.

Bloomington Kennedy (9-13) is also in the field.

Meanwhile, in the Lakers' win over the Blaze, it was a tight game at the break with Prior Lake up 28-23.

But the second half belonged to Prior Lake, outscoring the Blaze 44-34. An early alley-oop from McKiernan to senior Connor Bair put the Lakers up 40-26 and they never looked back from there.

Junior Jack Kortes finished with 13 points for the Lakers, while senior Austin Heidecker had 12 and senior Lucas Olson scored nine.

For Burnsville, senior Joe Morris scored 15 points, while junior Jason Gumm scored 11 and sophomore Jackson Martens had 10. Junior Tucker Shepley finished with eight points.
