Plenty of High Finishes

The Prior Lake girls track team didn't pick up any wins at the South Suburban Conference Championships May 23-24 in Lakeville.

But the Lakers had loads of top-five finishes en route to a fourth-place finish in the team standings with 101.3 points. Lakeville South claimed the crown (129), followed by Lakeville North (112.3) and Rosmeount (111).

Farmington was fifth (95), followed by Eagan (74), Shakopee (70.3), Eastview (57), Burnsville (48) and Apple Valley (28).

Next for the Lakers is the Section 3AA meet at Concordia University in St. Paul. The prelims are May 31 with the finals June 1.

Senior Madi Scholl will be one to watch at sections as she will be seeking her fifth straight state berth in the high jump. She ended up third in the SSC meet with a height of 5-4.

Ninth-grader Taynian Walgrave had three top-six finishes for the Lakers, while juniors Kristyn Arends and Maddy Bremer each had two.

Walgrave was third in the 200 with a time of 26.19, fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.59) and sixth in the 300 hurdles (48.07). Arends was second in the 400 (58.88) and fourth in the 200 (26.22), while Bremer was third in both the long jump (16-8 1/2) and triple jump (34-11 1/2).

Sophomore Jessica Lilland also had a strong showing in the pole vault for the Lakers taking third (9-9). Senior Gabi Brinkley led the distance crew, taking fifth in the 3,200 (11:31.98) and seventh in the 1,600 (5:19.35).

Other top-nine finishes for the Lakers: senior Ashlyn Peppler in the shot put (8th, 35-01), Scholl in the 100 hurdles (8th, 16.25), junior Sydney Briggs in the 300 hurdles (7th, 48.65), eighth-grader Kathryn Nollette in the 3,200 (8th, 11:45.67), ninth-grader Mariana Lehrer in the long jump (6th, 16-02), ninth-grader Grace Kashmark in the pole vault (T9th, 8-6) and senior Kayla Strodtman in the discus (7th, 110-08).

Prior Lake's best relay finish came from the 4x400 team of Arends, Scholl, Briggs and junior Cassie Flaata, taking third (4:05.43). The 4x800 team of Nollette, sophomores Olivia Jacobson and Abigail Smith and junior Serena Pfieffer was fifth (10:11.55).

Other finishes: Scholl in the 400 (10th, 1:01.75), Pfeiffer in the 800 (13th, 2:28.86), Smith in the 800 (15th, 2:30.14), junior Gabrielle Mosher in the 100 hurdles (16th, 17.60), Lehrer in the triple jump (14th, 32-6 3/4), sophomore Grace Greenbush in the shot put (13th, 32-9 3/4) and the discus (14th, 100-03) and junior Sofia Moskal in the shot put (16th, 31-09).

The Lakers 4x200 relay of Briggs, Flaata, ninth-grader Grace Reedy and sophomore Jasmine Loyola was seventh (1:50.69). The 4x100 team of Reedy, Loyola, eighth-grader Bella Hanson and sophomore Abigail Yost was eighth (52.07).
