Some Playoff Momentum

The Prior Lake girls soccer team is hitting its peak just in time for the playoffs.

The Lakers finished the regular season going 3-0-1 in their last four games, including a 5-0 home win over Apple Valley Oct. 5 in South Suburban Conference play.

The Lakers (5-8-3 overall) finished 4-3-1 in the SSC.

Brackets for Section 2AA come out Oct. 8 and the Lakers will likely be anywhere from the No. 6 to 8 seed. Prior Lake's 0-4-2 mark against section foes won't help its resume.

However, Prior Lake has some qualify wins, including 2-1 over No. 8-ranked Eagan and 1-0 over Lakeville North, while battling Minnetonka to 3-3 tie. So it's overall body of work, especially in the second half of the season, should help its resume.

Fourth-ranked Edina (10-1-4) is a lock for the No. 1 seed, while Chanhassen (9-4) and Minnetonka (7-4-4) should be in the next two spots. The next five spots are jumbled to include: Eden Prairie (4-8-2), Bloomington Jefferson (7-6-2), Shakopee (5-8-2) and Chaska (3-11), along with Prior Lake.

The Lakers lost to Edina (1-0), Eden Prairie (3-2), Chanhassen (2-1) and Chaska (1-0) in the regular season, while also tying Shakopee (2-2) and the Skippers.

Section quarterfinal play starts Oct. 12 with the semifinals Oct. 17. The higher seed is at home in the first two rounds. The title game is Oct. 19 at a site to be determined. For complete brackets, go to www.mshsl.org when they become available.

Meanwhile, in the win over Apple Valley, the Lakers had five goals from five different players — senior Lexi Mandery, juniors Megan Munger and Reagan Dahl, sophomore Calyn Schanzenbach and ninth-grader Kate Trachsel.

Senior Gwen Anderson and Hannah Caldwell and sophomore Katarina Decaroli each picked up an assist. Senior Leah Pavlish earned the shutout in goal.
