Taking Down A Pair Of Lake Conference Squads

The Prior Lake girls lacrosse team ran its regular season winning streak to 21 straight games.

The No. 2-ranked Lakers earned a pair of home wins over Lake Conference squads — 12-7 versus Edina April 20 and 16-6 over No. 9 Minnetonka April 18.

Prior Lake (3-0 overall) will open the South Suburban Conference season April 23 at home versus Shakopee at 7:30 p.m. The Lakers have won 27 straight league contests, going 9-0 in the conference the last three seasons.

The last SSC loss for Prior Lake was in 2015 when it fell to Lakeville South in the final league game of the regular season, which was for the conference crown.

Prior Lake is 35-1 in the SSC since 2015.

Meanwhile, in the win over Minnetonka, senior Lauren Wick led the Lakers with five goals while adding an assist. Sophomore Mackenzie Salentre had four goals, while sophomore Payton Bloedow had three goals and an assist.

Junior Josie Kropp chipped in two goals and two assists, while Jade Haugen and senior Ashtyn King each had a goal. Eighth-grader Rachel Ward had a pair of assists. 

Senior Grace Mattox made six saves in goal for the Lakers. She also got the start against Edina, a Section 6 foe, and played strong in the second half as Prior Lake limited the Hornets to just two goals.

The game was tied 5-5 at the break. The Lakers scored three quick goals to open the second half to take control of the contest.
