State Champion: Solt Leads the Lakers in Class AA State Pool

Ivy Solt led the way for the Prior Lake girls swimming team at the Class AA state meet.

The junior nearly won two individual titles, but ended up with one at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center Nov. 18. She broke her own school record in winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:51.09.

Solt dominated the field, finishing more than six seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher, sophomore Frances Muir of Edina (4:57.62).

In the 200 freestyle, Solt also broke her own school record, but ended second with a time of 1:49.33. Minnetonka senior Paige Dillon beat Solt to the finish line by .43.

Solt also anchored the Lakers’ 400 freestyle relay team to a fourth-place finish. Seventh-grader Genessa Sentyrz and juniors Alex Peterson and Natalie Kuboushek teamed up with Solt, and the foursome finished with a time of 3:32.26.

Their time was .76 off the school record.

The Lakers ended up tied for seventh in the team standings with South Suburban Conference rival Shakopee with 104 points. Edina won the title (331), followed by Minnetonka (303.5), Stillwater (192.5), Wayzata (130), Maple Grove (126) and East Ridge (110).

Section 2AA had four teams in the top seven with Edina and Minnetonka finishing one-two for the second straight year. Prior Lake was also seventh in the team standings last fall.

Senior Anna Cundiff also got on the state medal stand for the Lakers. She finished eighth in diving with 410.25 points.

Prior Lake’s 200 freestyle relay team of Peterson, Solt, Kuboushek and seventh-grader Livy Solt ended up 11th with a time of 138.00.

Kuboushek, Peterson and Sentyrz also competed in individual events for Prior Lake. Peterson ended up 14th in both the 100 butterfly and the 50 freestyle with times of 57.65 and 24.42, respectively.

Kuboushek finished 10th in the 200 freestyle (1:55.00), while Sentyrz took 21st in the 100 backstroke (59.84).

Prior Lake and Shakopee were the highest finishing SSC teams. Lakeville North was also in the top 10 taking with a ninth-place showing in the team standings (92), followed by Lakeville South in 13th (67.5), Rosemount in 14th (67), Apple Valley in 29th (8) and Farmington in 38th (3).
