Winning national titles is becoming second nature for the Prior Lake competition cheerleading team.

The Lakers captured the Division I Medium Varsity Non-Tumbling division for a fourth straight year at the UCA National Cheer Championships at Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Florida Feb. 9-12.

The team also captured the Non-Tumbling Medium Varsity national crown in Division I. The Lakers were second in that last year.

Meanwhile, the Prior Lake junior varsity also competed at nationals and finished third in GameDay and fifth in traditional in the junior varsity division.

Back on Jan. 27, the Lakers’ varsity was also state champions, winning both of their divisions in the Minnesota Cheerleading Coaches Association Championships at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul.

Prior Lake won the Class AA Non-Tumbling 2 title for the fourth straight year and the Game Day Non-Tumbling 2 crown for the second year in a row, while the junior varsity squad was second in the Game Day and sixth in the Tradition Competition at state.

The program has had a ton of success at the state and at the national level over the last five years.

In 2021, Prior Lake’s varsity earned the program’s first-ever national title, winning both Non-Tumbling Game Day division and the Medium Varsity Non-Tumbling Traditional Comp division.

At nationals in 2022, the program won the Medium Varsity Non-Tumbling Game Day division and was runner-up in both the Small Varsity Non-Tumbling division and in the Small Junior Varsity division.

In 2020, Prior Lake’s traditional squad finished third in the Medium Varsity Non-Tumbling division at nationals, while the Game Day team was fifth. It was the first time the program made it to the finals (top 12).

This year’s varsity team is coached by Maddie Bills, along with assistant coaches Brittany Rehbein and Megan Musil.

Team members are Carly Copeland, Lauren Domer, Kyla Nauertz, Kendall Mattson, Shelby Goddard, Reese Guggemos, Payton Soukup, Kylee Gehrke, Katelyn Cloudt, Ella Arbach, Madi Pickenpack, Lindsay Higgins, Morgan Nemecek, Haddie MacGillivray, Kate Kucera, Stella Goodman, Azara Olson, Payton Johnson, Willow Blotske, and Lilah Kraemer.

The junior varsity team coach is by Aubrey Holznagel and Annie Dokken.

Members include Sadie Kronmiller, Jazlyn Benitez, Ava Bildeaux, Avery Brett, Carys Taylor, Charlotte Anderson, Piper Smith, Molly Zack, Josie Belken, Taylor Caspers, Katerina Wilkerson, Kamry Walters, Keira Flaig, Natalie Payne, Addison Klamm, Leylia Kronmiller, Maisy Cordell, and Keira Young.
