Strong PL Track/Field Finishes At Shakopee Relays

he Prior Lake track teams had some strong performances at the Shakopee Relays April 18.

The boys team won four events en route to a runner-up finish with 345 points. Minnetonka won the crown (390).

St. Michael-Albertville ended up third (330), followed by Eden Prairie (269), Shakopee (260), Jordan (221), Lakeville North (217.5), Eagan (208.5), Waconia (194) and Spring Lake Park (183).

On the girls side, the Lakers were fourth with 318.5 points behind Minnetonka (442), St. Michael-Albertville (255.5) and Lakeville North (323.5). Blaine ended up fifth (288), followed by Waconia (237.5), Eden Prairie (221), Shakopee (175.5) and Jordan (163.5).

Senior Joshua Marcinkevich was part of two wins for the Prior Lake boys. He claimed the long jump with a leap of 20-5 1/4 and teamed up with junior Levi Eiter, sophomore Griffin Nordrum and senior Hunter MacGillivray to win the 800 sprint medley relay with a time of 1:39.66.

The 4x110 shuttle relay team of seniors Nathan Boettner and Kyle Rothmeyer, ninth grader Izryel Butler and eighth grader Joshua Barlass was also a winner (1:08.11), while the 1,600 medley relay team of seniors Leighton Prin, Nicholas Hoepner, Ren Anderson and Matthew Mahowald finished second (3:50.18)

Prior Lake also dominated the pole vault with senior Ryan Casey taking second (12-6), followed by senior Derek Baptiste in third (12-0) and sophomore John Maines tying for fourth (11-0).

Senior Javin Johnson tied for third in the high jump for the Lakers (5-10), while Casey tied for fifth (5-8). Senior Hootie Hage was third in the 1,600 (4:26.05), while Boettner was fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.27) and Rothmeyer was sixth (42.76).

In the shot put, senior Caelan Becker ended up fifth (46-11), while senior Reid Permuth was seventh (45-1 3/4). Sophomore Aiden Mbinda took ninth in the triple jump (38-7 1/4).

Prior Lake's 4x100 team of Eiter, MacGillivray, Marcinkevich and senior Surafel Bereket ended up fifth (44.46), as did the 4x400 team of Mbinda, Nordrum, Anderson and Mahowald (3:39.05).

The distance medley team of Hage, juniors Ledger Sears and Luke Loehlein and ninth grader Dylan Tuschen took sixth (11:45.05), while 4x200 team of Marcinkevich, MacGillivray, Bereket and senior Anthony Ferrante finished seventh (1:34.93).

For the Prior Lake girls, the 4x200 relay team of senior senior Addyson White, juniors Annabel McCann and Ava Loftness and sophomore Isabelle Reinders took first with a time of 1:46.62.

White was runner-up in the 300 hurdles (45.59), while senior Hannah Cole took fifth (51.04). Cole was also seventh in the pole vault (7-0), while senior Anna Cundiff tied for second (9-0).

Loftness finished fifth in the triple jump (32-1 3/4), while sophomore Madeline Chappuis was eighth in the long jump (15-5 1/2).

Senior Addison Schmidtlein took seventh in the shot put for the Lakers, while sophomore Aubrey Thomas, junior Kaylee Hawks and Chappuis each tied for eighth in the high jump (4-8). Sophomore Sara Gastony ended up seventh in the 1,600 (5:29.91).

The girls' 4x400 relay team of Cole, Thoms and seniors Julia Thoms and Clara Gillen ended up third (4:27.35), as did the 800 sprint medley team of juniors Jayla Rucker and Layla Vennink, senior Chloe Gilbertson and sophomore Haddie MacGillivray (1:58.61) and the distance medley team Gastony, juniors Maggie Hoen and Brooke Marquardt and ninth grader Delaney Holz (13;26.48).

The 4x100 shuttle relay team of White, Cole, Gillen and sophomore Lexi Teske was also third (1:09.80), while the 4x800 team of Holz, Julia Thoms, junior Morgan Richardson and ninth grader Riley Bevan ended up fifth (10:51.37).

The 4x100 team of Reinders, Loftness, Rucker and MacGillivray was sixth (52.06), as was the 1,600 medley relay team of McCann, senior Isabelle Ohlmann and juniors Leah Guetter and Kate Anderson (4:49.38).

The South Suburban Conference Championships for both Laker squads are set for May 21-22 at Eagan High School. Prior Lake will be the host of the Section 2AAA competition, which starts May 29 with the prelims and ends May 31 with the finals.

The Class 3A state meet starts June 6 with the prelims and ends June 8 with the finals with St. Michael-Albertville High School the venue for both days.
