Turns out 13 is not unlucky afterall. That's how athletes the Prior Lake girls track team is sending to state.

Five individuals will represent the Lakers, along with three relays at the Class AA state competition, which is June 7-8 at Hamline University in St. Paul.

The only blemish at the Section 3AA meet May 30 at the University of  St. Thomas is the Lakers fell just short of defending their team crown. Eagan took it from Prior Lake by three points finishing with 132.5 points.

Eastview was third (85), followed by Rosemount (61), Apple Valley (51), Burnsville and South St. Paul (44), Park (36.5), Bloomington Jefferson (28), Holy Angels (25), Visitation (18), Bloomington Kennedy (15), Richfield (13), Simley (9), Henry Sibley (8) and Hastings (2.5).

Representing the Lakers at state will be seniors Milana Walerius, Sami Syonesa, Elisa Bertoldi and Megan Andre, juniors Kasie Vollmer, Leah Amundson, Bolade Jinadu, Macy Violett, Sabrina Hille, Alex Collins and Megan Lesmeister, ninth-grader Ella Francis and eighth-grader Madi Scholl.

Vollmer won section titles in the shot put and the discus. She broke her own school in the discus May 28 with a toss of 144-10. She'll be competing in the state for a third straight year. She won the shot put May 30 with a mark of 40-2 to earn her second berth in that event.

The Lakers' 4x100 relay of Synoesa, Walerius, Bertoldi and Jinadu set a new school record in taking second with a time of 49.49. The old mark was 49.98 set in 2009. It's the first state berths for all four athletes.

In the prelims May 28, Scholl and Collins went one-two, respectively in the high jump with heights of 5-4 and 5-2. It's Collins' second state berth in that event and Scholl's first.

Andre set a new school record in the long jump by nine inches in the prelims, winning with a leap of 18-4 3/4. The old mark was 17-7 3/4 set in 1990. It's Andre's first state trip.

In the triple jump, sophomore Sarah Schrader ended up fourth with a leap of 35-10 1/2. The state standard is 36-4, so she was close. Andre ended up seventh (33-10 1/2).
