The Prior Lake boys soccer team continues to play like the defending Section 2AA champions.

The No. 7-ranked Lakers earned a 3-0 South Suburban Conference win at Shakopee Sept. 18 to run their unbeaten streak to nine straight games.

Prior Lake went into the contest off a 1-0 home win over Chaska in a battle of section foes Sept. 15.

The Lakers (7-1-3 overall, 4-0-1 in the SSC) are back on the field Sept. 20 at home to Farmington in league play at 5:30 p.m. Prior Lake is home to Burnsville Sept. 25 and at Apple Valley Sept. 27 in league games at 7:30 and 5 p.m., respectively.

Prior Lake is at No. 4 Minnetonka (6-1-3), another top section foe, Sept. 29 at 1:30 p.m., before ending the regular season Oct. 2 at Rosemount in league play at 7 p.m.

The Section 2AA quarterfinals start Oct. 9. The winner of the Lakers-Skippers game will likely get the No. 1 seed in the section, while Edina (5-3-1) is also in the hunt for it.

Prior Lake's only loss is to Edina, falling 2-0 back on Aug. 28.

Other teams in the field: Bloomington Jefferson (5-4-1), Shakopee (4-4-1), Chaska (3-5-2), Eden Prairie (1-3-1) and Chanhassen (3-5-1).

In the win over Chaska, senior Luke McCutcheon scored in the 12th minute and the goal stood up. Senior Owen Antonoplos had the assist, while senior Michel Phelan got the shutout.

Phelan recorded his fifth shutout of the season in beating Shakopee. The Lakers led 1-0 at the break on a goal by McCutcheon in the 22nd minute.

Antonoplos scored in the 41st minute, while senior Jake Leonard also tallied in the second half to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead. Antonoplos finished with three assists, while McCutcheon had one.

In the SSC standings, Prior Lake has a half-game lead over No. 6 Eastview. The last time the Lakers won the league crown was in 2014 when the team went 8-1.
