Continuing To Go Fast On The Conference Trails

The Prior Lake Nordic teams went fast in a South Suburban Conference sprint race Jan. 22 at Hyland Hills in Bloomington.

The Laker boys won the the classical competition with 125 points, which was nine better than runner-up Eagan. Independent School District 196 was third (65), followed by Lakeville North (52), Burnsville (43) and Lakeville South (21).

On the girls side, Prior Lake ended up runner-up in the standings with 103 points, which was 33 back of champion Eastview. Rosemount was third (100), followed by Lakeville South (69), Independent School District 196 (67), Burnsville (66) and Lakeville North (61).

The Lakers will compete in the SSC Pursuit Championships Jan. 28 at Hyland Hills starting at 9:30 a.m.

The Section 1 race follows. That is set for Feb. 5 at Hyland Hills at 9 a.m. Prior Lake looks to be the favorite in the boys race, while Winona-Winona Cotter is the favorite on the girls side.

The top two teams in both the boys and girls competition make the state field. The top six individuals in pursuit not on the advancing squads also qualify.

The state competition is Feb. 14 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.

At the SSC sprint race, senior Magnus O’Connor led the Lakers with a third-place finish with a time of 4:33. Sophomore Tom Beyer was right behind O’Connor in fourth (4:41), while senior Liam Schatzlein took fifth (4:43).

Senior Henry Trajano was also in the top 10 for the boys with an eighth-place finish (4:51), while senior Ben Jansen was 11th (4:53) and eighth-grader Evan O’Connor ended up 20th (5:22).

For the Laker girls, senior Maddie Clemensen led the way, finishing 10th (5:42). Senior Olivia Jacobson was 13th (5:53), while senior Ingrid O’Connor took 14th (5:44).

Sophomore Maddie Reckmeyer ended up 18th (6:08) for the girls squad, followed by eighth-grader Sophia Jacobson in 23rd (6:11) and sophomore Kate Nollette in 24th (6:16), sophomore Laura Murr in 28th (6:26), junior Kelly Kero in 34th (6:45) and junior Bryanne Pinkowski in 35th (6:53).
